Loving Kindness vs The Subtle Mind

I personally enjoyed the Subtle mind exercise much better than the loving kindness exercise. I felt that the subtle mind exercise put me more in touch with my body and mind. I think the breathing of this exercise put me in a calmer, more relaxed mood as I was able to relate to this exercise much better than the loving kindness exercise. The loving kindness exercise had my mind all over the place while this exercise had my mind rooted into one basic emotional state of calmness. I feel that spiritual wellness is connected to mental and physical wellness by creating a oneness. If one aspect is not well than the whole body is not well. I feel to be completely well is to be in good shape in the physical, spiritual and mental aspects of the body.

  1. Hey Tyler,

I agree with you about the loving kindness vs. the subtle mind. I feel like the loving kindness is hard for about anyone to do, because I think as humans we try to feel as little as possible of pain, hurting and suffering. That exercise was all for that, thinking about your enemies and loved ones in the same emotional state is a very difficult job. However, the subtle mind exercise allowed for the body to get in touch with the mind and the mind in touch with the body, as you said. I also liked that there was more talking in the subtle mind to focus on and less in between lull. Great post this week keep it up!

  2. Tyler,
I too agree that the subtle mind exercise was easier to gain a sense of calmness and peace, than the loving-kindness exercise. To me with the subtle mind exercise the main focus was on the rhythm of my breathes, which was easier than focusing on the suffering of others as in the loving-kindness exercise. Although that exercise was indeed humbling.
I also agree with your perspective in regards to the spiritual, mental, and physical aspect. I do think that once the spiritual aspect is indeed establish then it will be easier for the mental, and physical aspect to fall into place.

  3. Hello Tyler-
I am with you on this! It was much easier to accomplish the Subtle mind practice than the loving kindness for myself. Like you said, the loving kindness had my mind going here then there and all over. This practice made me feel more calm and definitely more in control of my mind.
    Great post!
    Jennifer
