Loving Kindness Exercise and Travelers Assessment
In doing the loving kindness exercise from pg. 93 of our book I feel as though I discovered somewhat more of my sensitive side. I thought about individuals all across the world as I uttered the phrases that were required to complete the assignment. In thinking about all these individuals it made me realize that there is always someone out there who has it worse than I do and that I should be happy for what I do have and use it to try to help the people I can. I discovered my heart is much bigger than I tend to think it is from doing this exercise. In doing the travelers assessment I focused more on my anger and attitude as it sometimes keeps me from accomplishing tasks and gets the best of me. I think meditation is going to be a great exercise that I can use to foster improvement in this area because it will help me think and focus. I think I lose a lot of focus when I am angry and to remain focused would definitely keep me from losing control. I think the breathing part of meditation will be vital to me improving my anger issues as well as the calming effect it will have on my body.

ReplyDeleteIt is kind of cool to know that we all have some-kind of heart; some of us just need to uncover it. I might be totally the opposite. I am always thinking of everyone else instead of focusing on myself and my needs. Meditation is definitely helping me plenty because I am taking the time to do it for myself.

ReplyDeleteThis exercise made me think about people who may be less fortunate than myself too. I enjoyed this exercise and it made me feel that if more people thought this way the world could become a better place to live. I think meditation would help you with controlling your anger too. Sorry you have anger issues. I use to be angry all the time when I found out I was going back to Iraq, because I dreaded it. I meditate now and I try to live with the attitude that, I need to except things I can't control and learn to life with that fact without the anger. Good luck with your meditation.

ReplyDeleteI believe that it takes these kind of exercises and techniques for us to remember our true inner self. We know who we are, but I think that some time we lose track of our emotional sides because of all the suffering in the world. We think that time is unlimited and we should start worrying out it when we are 80 or 90 and the people that are not in contact can wait till tomorrow. Sadly it is not that way and you have shown that through your blog. I am glad to hear you are working on your anger issues, there is nothing worse then anger in the heart. It is a good day to see someone discovering themselves all over again. Keep it up!

ReplyDeleteI think it is great that the exercise has had a possessive effect on you, and that you where able to find out more about yourself. I use to feel that meditation was a way to help you deal with the outside world. Even though it dose aid a person in that way I have found through practice that meditation is much more than that. ReplyDeleteI think that it is great that you are noticing change within yourself, and allowing yourself to think of others who are less fortunate, and realizing how bless and fortunate you are. I think this concept will allow us not to be negative, and stop complaining about the things we don't have, and be grateful for the things we do have. I think wanting to work on your anger is a great step toward flourishing. Without anger you will able to take a second and think instead of reacting so hasty, and irrational, and then regretting your actions later.
